The Spinal Cord, Abha – KSA
A NEURAL-INSPIRED URBAN SPINE CONNECTING CULTURE, LANDSCAPE AND KNOWLEDGE

This project forms part of a comprehensive masterplan inspired by the concept of a neural network, reflecting both the city’s cultural identity and the values of a knowledge-based society. Referred to as “The Spinal Cord,” the design establishes a connective urban framework that regenerates the natural topography while embracing vernacular architecture and nature as essential components of public life. Terraced buildings with green roofs frame a park beside the lake, fostering community interaction. The plan separates pedestrian and vehicular movement by placing logistics underground, ensuring a fluid and comfortable user experience. Anchored by a central spine, the development incorporates hotels and shaded walkways that enhance liveliness, connectivity, and environmental integration across the site.
