URBAN DESIGN 2023

Located in Abha, The Spinal Cord forms a key component of a wider masterplan shaped by a global urban vision. Inspired by neural networks, the project creates an interconnected architectural system that regenerates the topography, reinterprets vernacular forms, and extends nature into the public realm. Terraced buildings with green roofs overlook a landscaped lakeside park, while a central pedestrian spine structures movement and social activity. Hotels are strategically positioned along the route, supported by shaded walkways and expansive views. Vehicular circulation and logistics are placed underground, freeing the surface for a continuous, comfortable, and visually engaging civic landscape.
