ECO ISLAND HAINAN, CHINA

URBAN DESIGN 2016

South Sea Pearl Eco Island transforms an iconic circular artificial island into a model for sustainable tropical urbanism. Organized around the balance between land and water, business and leisure, and tradition and innovation, the masterplan integrates compact mixed-use districts, public spaces, green corridors, and low-impact mobility networks. Shaded pedestrian routes, cycling infrastructure, native planting, and water-sensitive landscape systems strengthen climate resilience and reduce dependence on private vehicles. Architecture and public realm reinterpret the region’s coastal identity within a contemporary framework, creating a vibrant destination where environmental responsibility, cultural continuity, social well-being, and long-term economic vitality support one another.
