CARBON-NEGATIVE DESIGN THROUGH WOOD INNOVATION AND PASSIVE ENERGY SYSTEMS

The project integrates cultural identity and environmental responsibility through a design that celebrates Ladino heritage while prioritizing sustainability and energy efficiency. It is founded on three key strategies: the use of traditional, low-impact materials; passive energy-saving systems, such as a double façade for climate regulation and daylight control; and renewable energy sources like geothermal power. Wood plays a central role as a structural, insulating, and cladding material, with cross-laminated timber used throughout in varied forms. Its low carbon footprint and capacity to store CO₂ result in a façade with negative emissions, helping to offset the environmental impact of limited concrete, glass, and steel used in the basement and structural joints.
