Pearl Ecological Island, Hainan – China
INTEGRATED COASTAL MASTERPLAN FOR RESILIENT AND LOW-IMPACT URBAN DEVELOPMENT

The project embraces its iconic circular form to symbolize harmony between dualities—land and sea, business and leisure, east and west. Rooted in cultural heritage and its tropical setting, the development envisions a sustainable, integrated urban model. Beyond relying on renewable energy and passive strategies, the master plan enhances livability through elements like a shaded, active promenade and Eco Towers that serve as biodiversity hubs and visitor landmarks. These features promote exploration and environmental awareness. The island stands as a realistic model for how modern, sustainable cities can emerge through thoughtful design rather than utopian ideals or excessive investment.
