La Grand Motte, France
RECONNECTING CITY AND NATURE THROUGH RESILIENT MEDITERRANEAN LANDSCAPES

The project reimagines La Grande Motte as a green, climate-resilient city where natural dune landscapes merge with urban life. It revitalizes key public spaces—quays, promenades, and parking areas—by introducing Mediterranean vegetation that supports biodiversity and adapts to local conditions. Iconic quays such as G. Pompidou and E. Tarbaly will be resurfaced with ceramic paving in homage to Jean Balladur’s original 1970s vision. A thousand trees of varied species will be planted, supported by the site’s existing water infrastructure. The nautical zone will also be expanded and restructured to improve function and connectivity, creating a vibrant, integrated district that extends toward the Môle Baumel tip.
