THE LINKING LINE: A CONTEMPORARY INTERPRETATION OF THE SILK ROAD WEAVING TOGETHER NATURE, HISTORY AND THE CITY

The proposed garden draws inspiration from Almaty’s historical role along the Silk Road, reimagining it as a symbolic journey through diverse landscapes and cultures. A network of paths within the garden evokes the ancient trade routes and forests once crossed by merchants, offering visitors a similar experiential passage. Functionally, the garden serves as a new urban connector, linking Timiryazev Street in the north with the future boulevard along Al-Farabi Avenue in the south via a newly created entrance and a central “linking line” path. The garden’s design also integrates a built base that aligns with the surrounding architecture, providing public amenities such as reception areas, shops, and fitness spaces, while enhancing access, shade, and urban integration.
